INFORMATION FOR NEWBORN SESSIONS
- It is best to book early to guarantee a spot for your newborn. I recommend booking during the second trimester.
- To reserve your due date, payment of the reservation retainer is required (dates will not be held without payment).
- Sessions focus on new baby only, sibling sessions can be purchased separately at a later date.
- Newborn sessions are best at around 5 to 15 days after birth.
- After you reserve your due date with the session retainer, you are in my calendar. About a month before your due date, I will be in contact with you so we can choose your preference in colors and props used. Sessions are styled by the photographer. No particular shot, set-up, or pose is guaranteed as baby is boss, but we do our best to accommodate requests.
- I ask to be notified as soon as reasonably possible after the birth of your baby so I can prepare for your session. If you wait until your baby is several days old to contact me, there is a chance I will be unable to fit you in within the baby's two week window. When you contact me to let me know the baby has arrived, I will give you a firm appointment date. It is best to have your baby's session on day seven, eight or nine if we can.
- Sessions are held in your home or a rented studio space within 25 miles of Cullman. There is an additional charge of .60 cents a mile for distances greater than 25 miles from Cullman. There are several tips I will send over to try to make baby as comfortable as possible and to obtain good results.
- Babies have accidents. It is to be expected...and often makes for a good laugh. It does not bother me and shouldn't bother you! ;) Everything gets washed in Dreft and sanitized after each session.
- I provide props, wraps, bonnets, hats, floors, accessories, etc. Coming into your home, I will need a cleared space of approximately 12x12ft that I can set up my light and props in. When I arrive, I will need about 15 minutes of set up time before we actually start capturing photos.
- Newborn sessions typically last two-four hours, so please plan accordingly. You may want to plan yourself a lunch and snacks. Enjoy the 'free' time to rest...I will not be offended if you nap! Sometimes parents may be called upon to "work". Some poses require assistance from Mom or Dad as a spotter. Baby safety is ALWAYS number one. We have to go at the baby's pace and it usually requires a LOT of patience. Please be prepared for this to be a large part of your day and do not have any other scheduled appointments on the same day.
- Newborns are delicate and require our full attention, please make other arrangements for siblings during your newborn's session or have someone present to ensure siblings will not be interfering with our session. Any property of the photographer broken or destroyed by a sibling will be the responsibility of the booking client.
- Other things to have handy include a pacifier (even if your baby doesn't use one yet), wipes and diapers, spare bottles and pumped breast milk or formula. You will absolutely have the time needed to nurse as well. (This also adds to the time needed for newborn sessions. Babies eat MUCH more than they normally would at a session. It is completely normal.)
